  • Today I feel like: Katie Holmes, because I’m excited although I’m not sure that what I’m getting myself into isn’t crazy

Am I ready to blog?  It’s like a whole new world, a little bit mystifying and partially insane.  Okay, so maybe comparing blogging to Tom Cruise and Scientology isn’t fair but I do feel like I’m kind of throwing myself off the deep end here.  Ah well.  Here goes I suppose.

Three Good Things About Katie Holmes That I Can Learn From:

  1. Katie turned down the original opportunity to audition for Dawson’s Creek because the date conflicted with her previous commitment to her high school production of “Damn Yankees”.  They ended up allowing her to send a video audition, which was taped in her basement, and she was cast without auditioning in LA.  I see this as a type of naivete about loyalty and a trust in things happening as they happen, without force, that I too treasure, and its nice to find that it has worked for someone else.
  2. Katie was a small town girl just out of high school when she became a Dawson’s star, and she admitted to needing a dictionary just to get through the script.  She greatly expanded her experience and vocabulary with that show, showing me that just because at first I don’t know what it means, doesn’t mean I can’t act it!
  3. Katie had a long string of film roles, all of which flopped and yet she continued on, even after being severely criticized for gratuitous nudity that supposedly ruined her innocent image.  Her perseverance is one thing you have to give her, even in her personal life, going from an engagement to actor Chris Klein, to her highly publicized marriage with good ol’ Tom.  Oh Katie, good for you.  Keep on truckin’, and maybe one day you and I both with get it right!
Interesting tid-bit we have in common:  
     In high school, both Katie and I performed as a waiter in “Hello Dolly!” and as Lola in “Damn Yankees”. Katie is also 5′9″ tall, making her and I exactly the same height. Neat!

    Are we talking about learning from Katie Holmes in terms of acting? Or just in general? I didn’t know she was a singer. That’s something new on my part. And Hi and Welcome to WordPress!
