I am too good for my job
- Today I feel like: Christina Ricci, because I’m talented and being naively exploited…
I have basically been working way too many hours lately. It’s hard when I think about things like loyalty and then I realize it doesn’t really exist in the business world. Okay, so maybe it sounds a little be conceited to say that I am too good for my job, but my proof lies in the fact that everyone else who does my job doesn’t put as much care, work, or hours into it as I do. I really should just be able to say “screw it”, but somehow I never can, and this is how my boss is taking advantage of me. Alright, so it’s not in the same way Christina Ricci was taken advantage of… Did you see those nudey pinups she was doing when she was like 18?
Three Good Things about Christina Ricci:
- She now owns her own production company, after coming through the rest of her career. The company has produced two full-length films to date, both socially aware projects. She does not consider herself an A-list actress, and thinks that she never will. Honestly, if Christina Ricci can keep a head on her shoulders and keep on keepin’ on in whatever way she can, even after starting out by being type cast as the “creepy girl”, I think no one has an excuse.
- Christina is socially aware. She is a national spokesperson for an organization to help Rape and Abuse victims, she is a national board member of VOX-Voices for planned parenthood, and when she received a letter from the animal rights group, she actually gave up wearing fur. It’s nice to see someone doing all they can to help others. If someone who has been in the business since childhood can keep their morals and ethics, well, maybe the business isn’t all that bad after all.
- When Christina was a teenager, she began cutting herself, an act directly relating to her self-esteem. It takes courage to move on from a place like this, to find things better for yourself. When I look at Hollywood, I sometimes wonder if anyone can indeed heal themselves from within the world of TV and Film, or if you indeed must get out at some point. Christina continues to make movies, commercials, speak publicly and now produce. It’s inspiring to see that kind of courage and that kind of growth from someone who really never left the industry.
Interesting tid-bit:
Christina’s mom was a Model/Real Estate Agent. Her father was a Lawyer/Psychiatrist. She proves that you can survive no matter how weird (and sometimes deranged) your parents may be. Thank God…
